Dear Reader,
This "open letter" is addressed to whoever finds it here, amidst the hints of everything that is to come, and the promises of what this website will eventually contain. You are about to understand more than ever before, what a blog or website can represent to a so-called cultural creative, who understands what it means when opportunity meets preparation. But first, let's get certain things established, before we take the next step.
You may be a visitor, checking out this website for the first time, or you may have been invited to see what this is about. Whether finding this was an accident, or you are here with intentions, it's entirely possible that you may be in the category of audience that I hope will be reading this. Please humor me, as I describe what kind of person that you may be.
First, you are very quick on the uptake. It may have been my pleasure to have met you through one of the local meetup groups that I run, or we may know each other through another website or online community such as Tribe.net or Facebook or something equivalent. Any way I look at it, the fact that you are reading this, is the basic premise that underlies much of my recent efforts to publicize what I involve myself with. That is because this is also fun, and we may be taking the beginnings of our relationship to the next level in the upward direction. We may be on the way to connecting as Friends, and sharing our experiences in this new environment here.
Second, I have a great deal of respect for someone --like you-- that not only gets the message, but is able to read between the lines and also put themselves in the best position to reciprocate with a clear and intelligent two-way communication.
The point is, you may be out there yourself, looking for ways to follow up on the suggestions that I sow like seeds. And, if you are actually creating and posting to your own blog... well, that literally thrills me to the tips of my toes. Because if you are like that, and you do what I do, then we are doing what I've been writing about for years, and there is more that will come out of this. Especially if we look at times like this as opportunities, to fulfill our dreams of being part of the independent publishing movement, or whatever this path that we're on, will become in the future. For whatever influence I'm having with you, be assured that I'm very pleased with the resulting consequences and those are indeed very consequential.
It is quite possible that you are really the kind of person who fully and completely understands the significance of those words. If you do understand it already, it is also quite possible that you will come to an even more profound realization of how auspicious this can be, in the weeks and months to come.
Welcome to the Blogosphere indeed. Big deal? You better believe it. And writing...well, that is what we want to do, right?
And, as you will see, I do have an agenda of creating the possibilities of meeting new business contacts, which indeed become close personal friends. It has been my pleasure as a Meetup organizer (for several groups) to facilitate and support the possibility of extending social networking into the mix of inspiration and education.
So, you were obviously wondering what the next step (or steps) is going to be, and I'd like to address that. I do have all of the indications that you'll also be the type of person who will enjoy the benefits of some of the information I'm about to directly expose you to. What I can say already, is that I'm very proud to be introducing you to the people that I know in my network.
Locally, here in Tucson it's been a slow process to get the writers scene in touch with itself. There must be some other groups out there, but we haven't found each other yet, and so far...they don't know about us and we don't know (much) about them.
In the end, we seem to find each other most efficiently from using the Internet as a source of the ultimate way of knowing "what's out there" information.
I've got more to share, but I also want to respond to your potential questions about what makes me tick. So here are some of the pertinent details.
I have a consulting practice, DBA: 3rd party consulting. I'm also a partner in a larger organization, known as The 3rd Party Media Alliance Group. But more about that later. For now, let's just acknowledge that I enjoy working with my customers on concepts like entrepreneurial business strategies, guerrilla viral marketing, creative design disciplines, and best practice implementation.
I was a technical support professional for 5 years (up until my job was off-shored) and I especially enjoy the topics of software development and network/internet security. Part of what I do is write about the other things I do, and part of what I do about that... is to market the articles, etc. that I write, which leads to becoming a professional speaker and seminar leader. In this process I also benefit by directly experiencing the benefits of hardcore research methods, and marketing (e.g. I’m a professional “cool finder”).
For the past few years, I’ve been getting paid to blog. My various professional and technical experiences lend themselves to a rich resource for getting some interesting information in front of the eyeballs of the world. How all of this is transpiring, is the story that I’m interested in telling you more about.
So, I mentioned the consulting practice because, under special circumstances, it's fun to do some tutoring, teaching, mentoring, etc. in the capacity of a personal --in this case, instructor is too narrow of a category-- so we'll call it...a facilitator. In the end though, because of the enormous scope of possibilities that exist for a person such as myself, I have to figure out what parts of the equation are practical or pragmatic, because there is only so much of me to go around. And yet, there is so very much to do and take on, and then even more to continue doing from there on.
This is where I ask you, as the reader, to think about whether you are in the position to qualify yourself, as a person who has a reason to read further.
You are at an ideal location in your ongoing experiences. You are still inexperienced about certain things, but quick to adopt new ideas and take direct action. Sure, you have your real life to lead, and doing all of this stuff online might seem a bit extraneous in certain ways, but we know exactly what must be done in order to be what a writer wants to be, and you surely know what your own motivations are bound to lead to. This is the point where it may appeal to you to make the most of a splendid opportunity to do all of the things you do in the best ways that are possible.
Whether you write for income or just for enjoyment, is not something that I really ever need concern myself about. However, If you are a writer, then you and I might have something more to talk about. Some people that I know write for personal gain, and other writers I know, do it because they just have to. Personally, it hadn’t occurred to me to expend any of my energy on authoring, until my wife took my imagination on a little journey of ‘what ifs’ a few years ago, and I suddenly realized that I really enjoy being a writer. What’s more, there are interested parties who are willing to fund me in order to do more of it. By funding, I refer to the work that I enjoy doing with my wife (317537LESLIE), in our preoccupation with philanthropic, not-for-profit work, in which the said funding is a process that takes care of the necessities. On the other side of that are fee-based services, which are the basis of how I support myself with the consulting practice. I do the consulting, in lieu of formal employment, and I have not had a day job since Nov. ’04. You can read about the background story here: http://www.convergys-outsources-jobs.blogspot.com/
These days, there are many ways to enjoy the benefits of having a large network of friends-who-are-business-contacts, and referrals work very well in that context. I also trade-out and barter quite extensively, and especially when it applies to situations where I’d like to help people out in any way that I can.
Finally, you might be asking what's next? In the end, I can point to this platform that you have located, where you can read and ponder this:
Blog = A public diary on the way to being a book. Beyond the book, is the multimedia experience... and after that? The Sky is the Limit.
to be continued...
